Great Theatre Right in Our Backyard

You may think you have to visit a big city to experience great theatre. But here in Franklin & Williamson County we have everything you could want.

Looking for high caliber Broadway actors, dancers and musicians in a gorgeous theatre with fabulous sound. We have Studio Tenn who performs at the Franklin Theatre. This season has been amazing! There was Smokey Joe’s Cafe, 12 Angry Men, A Christmas Carol and Big River. Don’t worry, you will still have an opportunity to catch a great production by this group. Tomorrow, May 16th, they will be opening My Fair Lady.

Take a peek behind the scenes of My Fair Lady to get a taste of the gorgeous costumes and make-up.

Itching for something more local, we have tons to offer here in Franklin and Williamson County. The Boiler Room Theatre has great a great line up of productions including Escanba in Da Moonlight beginning May 24th.

They will also be performing Les Miserables in August. The great thing about Boiler Room is that many of the performers are local. They also give the younger actors an opportunity to shine with the Act Too players. These productions are mostly cast with young actors. This week they are performing Annie & Alice in Wonderland.

Pull- tight theatre is right in the heart of downtown Franklin and was started by a local in 1968 who decided that Franklin needed a community theatre. The first production was Our Town and on May 31st they open Beau Jest, a comedy about the entire family.

We have a special performance of The Absinthe Broadway Cabaret opening on Saturday May 18th at Jamison Hall in the Factory at Franklin. Broadway’s Eden Espinosa from Wicked, Rent and Brooklyn, performs in an innovative experience that celebrates the intimate cabaret infused with the bold sound of Broadway.

In Brentwood there is the Towne Center Theatre that has a full season of productions, including the Wizard of Oz which will open in June.

And for a twist, try the Chaffin’s Barn Dinner Theatre. They will be presenting Ded Herring, a mystery by John Chaffin.

Art in Franklin and Williamson County

Franklin and Williamson county are known for great restaurants, shopping and music. But if you look a little closer you will see that there are some unique opportunities to see unique and fine art as well. Here is a peek at just one of the many offerings, David Fox of the Copper Fox gallery in Leiper’s Fork.

Leiper’s Fork also offers beautiful high-end artisan art at the Leiper’s Creek Gallery and David Arms Gallery. You can see all three galleries, on April 27th at a great event called 3×3. You can enjoy the charm of the lovely village, beautiful art, wine and appetizers in the three galleries and delicious food from Puckett’s Grocery & Restaurant. To find out more about the artists involved read the article highlighting them in the Nashville Arts Magazine.

In the Factory at Franklin there are several options to explore. Southgate Studio & Fine Art not only has a large selection of original fine art, they offer art classes and workshops taught by professional artists. If you are looking for original oil paintings and collectible reproductions by artists from around the world, stop at Stonebridge Gallery. On the upper mezzanine is a unique gallery called Imagine Gallery of American Fine Art & Objects. Imagine’s rotating fine art collection is always fresh and as diverse in style and media as the name implies. You can enjoy an entire row of working artists at The Row at the Factory. The Row offers the opportunity to interact with artists, observe art in process, and purchase great works.

Downtown Franklin has everything from a Thomas Kinkade Gallery to a Rare Prints Gallery. The town also hosts an Art Crawl named The Franklin Art Scene and is held the first Friday of every month. Not only are galleries involved, but shop owners and artists come out to display all of their works.

A really special offering is the Franklin Glassblowing Studio. Along with the beautiful glass art, home decor and lighting, the studio also offers instructional classes for groups and individuals.

The downtown area is also home to a fine arts framing business, Damico Frame & Art Gallery. They offer custom picture framing, prints on canvas, giclee, fine art printing, art reproduction & photo restoration.

A hidden gem in downtown is Gallery 202. Housed in the beautiful ”Historic Clouston Hall” that was built in 1821. The gallery not only displays amazing local artisans who work with metal, glass, sculpture and traditional paint on canvas, they also have art you would not think you’d find in a small town. The gallery displays a couple of pieces by Andy Warhol, alongside beautiful lit glass sculpture and mixed media art.

Gallery 202 has something for everyone. From it’s beautiful historic building to the eclectic offerings, this is a spot not to be missed.
